Arthur Thiele cartoons

A selection of postcards with cartoons by German illustrator Arthur Thiele (1860 - 1936).

Carl Robert Arthur Thiele was born in Leipzig on 2 November 1860. He made a name for himself as a painter, draftsman, watercolourist and illustrator. He produced a variety of artworks of different types, including book illustrations for school primers, children's books and other works, postcards and designs for paper lanterns.  Typical of his postcard designs were comic scenes and animals depicted in human roles.  Most often he depicted humanized cats.  He died in Leipzig on 18 June 1936.
