Thomas Richard Downey was a leading cartoonist for Judy magazine a rival to Punch. He was referred to as a great asset to Judy by its editor in 1899. Downey also drew cartoons for the Daily Graphic, The Sporting and Dramatic News, The Sketch, Monnshine, The Boys' Own Paper and The Idler. He was the President of the Sketch Club in 1925.
