Raven-Hill - WW1

Leonard Raven-Hill (1867-1942) - Leonard Raven-Hill was an English artist, illustrator and cartoonist.  He was born in Bath in 1867 and from an early age was interested in art. He studied in London before moving to Paris for a time. He died at Ryde on the Isle of Wight in 1942.

In 1901, Raven-Hill joined the illustrated magazine Punch and became its political cartoonist. He illustrated some of the cards in the series of Punch cartoon postcards, which were published during the Great War by Jarrold and Sons.

All of the following Ministry of Information inspired propaganda cards entitled “Out for Victory" were illustrated by Raven-Hill. The cards are numbered and there are thought to have been eighteen in the full set.
