The reference is to the Workmen’s Compensation Act of 1906 which introduced new legislation covering injuries to workers whilst at work. For most workers the act ensured that if they suffered a personal injury whilst at work, they would be entitled to compensation. The act built on previous legislation (1897 Workers Compensation Act).
