John Herbert wins HAGS/PWDGS Trophy in a low-scoring competition at Old Thorns Golf and Country Estate in Liphook, Hampshire on 14 August 2012.
The outing to Old Thorns on 13 - 15 August 2012 may reasonably be described as a qualified success.
The golf course was in excellent condition and very challenging, as witness the winning scores (see below), but also difficult to navigate by buggy because of the requirement to keep the buggies on the cart paths.
The weather was kind for the main HAGS/PWDGS competition on Tuesday, but rather less so for the mini-comp on Monday and the team competition on Wednesday. The hotel accommodation was very comfortable and the wining and dining was excellent.
The touring party comprised: Jeremy Crockett, Nigel French, Alan Green, Mike Harley, John Herbert, Tony Lawrence, Harry Martin, Alan Milne, Les Thompson, Bryan White and Eric Wood. Roger Thomas was a late absentee due to illness.

Planning for 2013
The arrangements for next year's outing were discussed over dinner as usual. The main considerations for next year's venue were agreed as follows:
Location - south midlands or south central
Date - First or second week of August 2013
Duration - Main event two days, but with the option of an additional day for those who want a longer outing
Carts - Unless the course is very flat, there need to be carts available and usable all over the course
Accommodation - On site and at least 4-star standard
Participation open to members of the other Hong Kong golfing group (ex-Football Club)
