TT Roll-up Xmas Lunch

Bells

The 2018 TT Roll-up Xmas Lunch, held on Sunday 16th December 2018, was attended by 32 members and their ladies.

Following an excellent carvery lunch with festive accompaniments (including a quiz), the party repaired to the Skelton Room for coffee, mince pies and post-prandial “entertainment” masterminded by Mike Whitwell.

After a brief introduction wishing all present the best for the festive season, Mike introduced chief cook and bottle-washer, Nigel French, to give his usual review of the year,

Nigel was pleased to report on the on-going success of the roll-up and the continued healthy numbers participating in it, while also noting the changes in participation during the year.

He was sure all would agree on the overall high quality of the golfing facilities at Frilford, including particularly the excellence of the courses, but there are still areas for improvement.  In this context, he was pleased to note the Club's promises to improve bunkers and pathways in their programme of forthcoming work.

He also noted with pleasure the increased responsiveness of the Club, notably following the results of the members’ survey earlier in the year, including their taking note of regular members’ roll-up starting times with a view to avoiding clashes with bookings for societies and other visiting groups.

Finally Nigel announced the results of the Hugh Chamberlain Trophy 2018, which was won by Bryan Claringbold with an average of 24.79 points over 33 outings.  For further details and full results, click here.

Unfortunately, although he had attended the lunch, Hugh Chamberlain was unable to present his trophy in person because he couldn’t get up the stairs and the Club still has no lift (shame!!).  So Nigel presented the trophy on Hugh’s behalf.

After a gracious acceptance speech by Bryan in which he stressed how much he enjoyed playing with the TT Roll-up (even Alan O’Donoghue if pressed), Mike Whitwell announced the results of the quiz and sundry other prizes and then oversaw the drawing of the table raffle.

A concluding vote of thanks was recorded for Mike’s organisation of the lunch, particularly given his recent misfortunes in Austria, and then all adjourned for the trip home and a lie-down in a darkened room.
