+++++++

This year's outing was held at Puckrup Hall on Wednesday and Thursday 11/12 August 2010.

I think all those who attended enjoyed the golf, the dining and the hotel, regardless of the slight glitch over checking out (about which appropriate noises have been made to Golfbreaks).

Overall the course was in reasonable condition, although suffering, like nearly all golf courses in the midlands and south of England, from shortage of water.  The greens, however, were in good shape and running quite true.

The scores were materially better than last year, with the majority scoring 30 or more stableford points on both days.  Indeed two players scored so well on Day 1 (see below) that the handicapping committee decided, after due and careful consideration, to reduce their handicaps by 2 shots and 1 shot respectively before play on Day 2.

The results were as follows:

Day 1 Individual Stableford

Winner :                     Tony Lawrence  40 pts

Runner-up :               Alan Milne          38 pts

Nearest pin no 2 :    Alan Green

Nearest pin no 16 :  No winner

Day 2 Individual Stableford

Winner :                     John Boyd          37 pts

Runner-up :               Roger Thomas  36 pts (CB)

Nearest pin no 2 :     No winner

Nearest pin no 16 :  Jeremy Crockett

Overall winner and

winner of HAGS/PWDGS Trophy :  Alan Milne         72 pts

Runner-up :                                              Tony Lawrence 70 pts

Accounts

Since the legacy money from HAGS in Hong Kong was used up last year, this year's outing had to be fully self-funding.  However, by judicious application of a Golfbreaks discount and some of the accumulated "break points" earned from previous outings, it was possible to give each golfer who attended a £10 discount.

For expenses on the day itself, contributions were collected of £5 per golfer for prizes and £15 per person at dinner for wine and coffee.  A small balance of £19.10 will be carried forward to next year.

HAGS/PWDGS 2011

Arrangements and possible venues for next year's outing were discussed without any particular conclusions being reached beyond an apparent preference for a venue in the south midlands.  Timing will again be early August.
